[He winks at him before getting back to looking at all of ]
Nah I never was good with spicy actually. [This might be due to his persona and his aversion to fire. Did spice count as that, or was that some sort of unconscious thing? He didn't know.] But if you want it spicy, I can make a broth for you! I don't want you to forgo your spice levels for mine.
[He's got a nice little black cauldron on the counter, that he's filling with seaweed and bonito flakes before adding hot water into it to let it steep.]
What meat would you like? [Cause you know Eikichi is all about the vegetables and tofu. Even as he asks, he's busy taking some mushrooms and cutting stars on the top.]
A relationship is about compromise, my dear boyfriend. It's not forgoing my spice preference when a non-spicy broth is just as good. So let's go traditional.
[ His hands plant on his hips and at the question about meat, one hand lifts so he can extend his finger confidently. ]
Wagyu beef, pork belly, scallops, and maybe some salmon too!
[ Junpei has zero hesitation when it comes to asking for the fancier types of things. After all, it had been Eikichi's idea to go for high quality ingredients just to eat on the Fae's dime, so to speak. ]
[He can't help but laugh at the choices, having corrupted him fully into a life of fancy food. Or fancy vegetables for him anyway.]
Salmon? Nah, that's gonna break down in the broth, babe. You gotta think even bigger. Lamb, lobster, tiger prawn, uni...[he looks almost mischievous when he adds;] abalone!
[This is going to be a 3 star restaurant meal. Even his dad would be jealous! Eikichi looks for nice wooden boxes to deposit all the vegetable prep he's done so far before retreating into the kitchen and returning with a bunch of expensive meat and seafoods which he immediately starts slicing (if Kitchen-san hasn't done it for him anyway).]
Just make sure to put the seafood stuff last in, 'kay?
[When you have a magical kitchen that makes you have of the things ready to go, it really does feel like cheating.]
[ He grins in response to Eikichi's suggestions, watching him and his precision knife work. In the meantime, Junpei checks his leaf to see how they're doing on time. A half hour. That's good. Still plenty of time to pick a nice spot, eat and enjoy the view. He smiles at the phone background -- some goofy selfie of him and Eikichi, all big smiles and pure joy.
His eyes lift to take in the real life version. There's so much a still photo can't capture. The sound of Eikichi's laughter. The graceful motion of his hands. The fresh clean scent of his favorite soaps. It continues to blow Junpei's mind that someone so all around perfect could be into him. ]
Maybe we'll be lucky when night settles in and the stars come out. We'll get to see a shooting star and can make an actual wish?
[ Junpei's glad he missed it. The whole incident with the orb was annoying as hell, but relatively normal? At least in terms of they understood what was happening. There was a way to fix it. Stars falling from the sky and being aliens is just so far beyond his comprehension. ]
.....so I guess what you're saying is we shouldn't wish on them? And uh, if there's a shooting star, we oughta prepare for the worst?
[Thankfully Eikichi hasn't told Junpei too much about the time they had to fight aliens because of the whole Maiden of Maia bullshit. At least some of these aliens are nice and not out to eat them.]
Nah, it's fine. Some of them were nice, but I saw them the same way I saw demons. I just don't want them to fall on the ground again, it was pretty complicated getting them all back up. At least we did get sparkly shadows out of it, so I guess that's kinda cool?
[ Junpei had spent the past few months paying so much attention to Eikichi, but like. His face. His hands. Not really his feet. Feet weren't Junpei's thing. So when Eikichi mentions sparkly shadows, Junpei finally looks down and holy shit. Sparkly shadows. ]
.....bro. Your shadow's like bedazzled. What's even the point of it??
Seriously, bro? You never noticed? [He kneels down closer to it and plucks one of the starlight glowing pieces from it, holding it with a hand.] Instant light! [He carefully puts it back in.] Honestly I keep forgetting it too. It doesn't really change anything 'bout me right?
[If Witch Detective had been released around his time, he might have made a joke about being a sparkling vampire.]
I'm done! Let's pick some drinks and get outta here. We still have a good thirty or so minutes to set things up and start cooking before the sunset happens.
[ Junpei watches as Eikichi is able to actually pluck out one of the sparkling lights -- impressed. It's a strange ability but useful, probably? If they ever find themselves out in the darkness somewhere. ]
No, it doesn't change anything. You're still the most beautiful guy I've ever laid eyes on.
[ Junpei smiles at Eikichi before tapping his chin in thought. ]
Since we're gonna have the fire going, maybe we should just bring a kettle and some tea so we can have it on hand? Pour it as we go and still keep it nice and warm?
[ Junpei preens when Eikichi calls him handsome before returning that hug with one arm and then follows Eikichi like a little duckling. He's not sure what he can do, but he knows Eikichi can't carry it all so Junpei's prepared to take whatever -- whether that's the kettle and tea or something else. ]
Mmm, that's all you, babe. I don't know all that much about tea. I just thought it was better than having an energy drink this late in the day. Especially 'cause someone likes to get up too early.
Better to get herbal teas in that case. [He doesn't even deny he gets up early - it's true. Now they just need to avoid caffeine altogether, so black teas are definately out.] Maybe something like lemongrass or lemon and honey would fit nicely with the hotpot...white imperial tea might be nice...
[His knowledge of drinks is somewhat limited to "what tea goes well with fish" and "what alcohol pairs well with fish" to serve at customers in their shop. He settles on a sort of mixture of various tea leafs which he puts together in a portable teapot and gives that to Junpei along with the hotpot that they'll use to cook the food. He then gets to using towels to fold the other food boxes together, like a sort of fae-made benoto boxes]
[ Junpei nods along, clueless but agreeable. Eikichi knows best! He'll defer to Eikichi on this one. In the meantime he is the extra set of arms in taking the items. ]
You got it, Boss.
[ Junpei smiles, cheeky. ]
Or I guess No Longer The Boss.
[ There's a wink and Junpei starts toward the door, waiting for Eikichi to finish the final touches of prep before they can be on their way. ]
But you can still boss me around later if ya want~!
[The two 'boxes' of tied ingredients strung together, Eikichi looks back at him, a glint in his eyes.]
No Longer The Boss is right. We can save the bossing around for later.
[He holds them with the care of someone's whose had to juggle packing boxes filled with fish for most of his life as he easily piles them on top with each other. That's why he didn't have that much trouble when they shopped, for the most part.]
Alright! The night is...not even young at this point since it hasn't started yet, so let's just go to the beach!
Edited (changed my wording) 2026-05-16 19:58 (UTC)
[ He'd salute except his hands are kinda full. So instead, Junpei playfully marches out the door like a man on a mission. And they are on a mission. They gotta pick the best spot. Who knows how much competition is out there for sunset on the beach watching! ]
Yanno, this will be the first sunset I've gone out and deliberately watched. I'd be out before when it's happening and just be like 'huh, looks like it's getting dark.' But never really sat down with the intention of just...watching it turn to night. So it's one more first to add to the many firsts I've gotten to do with you.
Right and the Dark Hour probably didn't help, huh...
[Look at his boyfriend, acting like a nerd. Off they go, MISSION START! It doesn't take too long for them to leave the safety of the castle and head off to the beach, close to the pier where they may see the ghost ship. Once he's satisfied with the sky-to-beach ratio, he puts the brazer down, putting the pot on top of it, ready to be heated. He removes the clothes from the containers, putting both down on the ground for them to sit on. Wouldn't want too much sand everywhere after all. As he puts pieces of charcoal into the brazer, he adds;]
Y'know what that means, right? I know I wake up early, but we should do it together! to watch the sunrise! That way we can say we've done both! [A small pause for dramatics.] Or done both of each other?
[ He almost wishes they could have a flag to plant down as they claim their spot, but at the same time it would just be for funsies because it doesn't really look like they're having much competition. In fact, the whole beach is pretty vacant beyond a few stragglers. That's perfectly fine with Junpei. He had his fill of interactions in the marketplace. ]
I think I'm better off staying up the whole night until sunrise than I am waking up for it. And it won't be tonight. Tonight I'm gonna be so tired. An afternoon marathon of good sex, a belly full of good food and herbal tea? No shot I'm staying awake too long after we get back to the dorm.
[ He settles onto the cloth, watching all that Eikichi's doing with interest. ]
Ooo. We should take some selfies in the sunset. Maybe one of those fun ones where we each do one half of a heart with our hands and have the sun glowing between them. My Leaf's an aspiring photographer. I bet it could get the right angles to make it look real cool!
Right! I don't think I'd want an all-nighter either. [He's tired as well. Not just cause of all the things Junpei mentioned, but also it was a pretty long day in general. Even without the sex.
But the sex did do a lot of work, it's true.]
Sure. Let it run wild and do its thing. As long as it's careful not to get wet with water, that might damage it. Maybe? I don't know what these things run on.
[With the pot on top and the charcoal on the bottom, he briefly summons...Vishnu who he gives pieces of wood that burst into flames, as the Persona get the fire going before disappearing. Yes, he could have just used a match but this is way more flashy.]
I think we timed it just right. The pot should be boiling in a few minutes, right before the sunset.
[ He's not actually sure if the Leaf is an electronic, even though he tends to think of it as one. But it charges by....moonlight? Sunlight? And apparently it's alive? So maybe it could go for a swim. Get some cool underwater shots. Summer's coming up soon. No doubt Junpei and Eikichi are gonna have some beachy fun. Ahhhh, Junpei smiles at the thought. Him and Eikichi going for a swim, maybe finding themselves a waterfall they can sneak behind and steal some kisses. ]
Hm? [ Eikichi's still talking and Junpei was busy fantasizing. It takes him a moment to realize what he said. ] Oh! Go us for our perfect timing~! Also I'm loving this idea. Maybe we can bring Tatsuya out for picnic hotpot next time? I bet he'd love it.
[Oh that's so kind of you, Junpei. Eikichi smiles at the idea.]
Yeah! I'm not averse to a bro's night out. That could be fun and take his mind off other things. Plus another day were he isn't down scarfing potato chips. [A win in his book. He scoots a little closer to Junpei.]
[ Of course Eikichi is over here, being the mother hen of the group -- making sure his bestie and boyfriend are taken care of. It makes him smile and he closes up that gap between them so his head can drop onto Eikichi's shoulder. ]
What a week.
[ He repeats. Junpei did have to contend with the lows of all the shit he went through at home, but that's nicely offset by the highs of getting to be with Eikichi. ]
Who could've predicted going to magical faerie land could net me the man of my dreams? And that he'd be one of the first people I got to meet at a crappy school dance. Eikichi-kun, will you take me to homecoming next time?
[ Junpei looks up at him with a grin. He's not even sure what 'homecoming' is, just that it's in all those American teen movies and Junpei's pretty fond of his American movies, especially the super hero ones they show at the film festival! ]
[He's content to just stare at the waves for a while as Junpei speaks, leaning his head on top of his and smiling. Each month brings something new and he feels so far away from being flung back home that it feels like his reality is nothing more than a dream now. It both worries and soothes him. He can be greedy for a little longer, right?]
Well, I don't know why we need to do a dance for coming home, but yeah! I will definitely take you to a homecoming if they ever hold it again.
[He moves his head just so Junpei can look at him, and he still thinks a summer festival would be way more fun than a weird school thing, but he'll lean into it because it's fun.]
We'll do the kissing booth this time!
[The water is close to bubbling up. Time to open up the boxes so that they slowly submerge things as they eat. He only stands up to do that and also give him a small plate with some rice and chopsticks so he can take what he wants, cook it and then eat it.]

...ahh right. Uhhh...you weren't around when the stars literally fell from the sky, right? We've sort of interacted with them...

[ Wouldn't that be like....Armageddon shit? Balls of fire hurtling down from the sky? ]

[How can he describe them? They all looked so different and he didn't have his sketchbook around or the time to draw them.]
Anyway, they all got back up there, I guess?
[Honestly he's still confused by the entire thing.]
