🦋 IC Information

Character Name: Junpei Iori
Age: 16
Canon: Persona 3 (Reload)
Canon Point: 11/3 -- immediately following the Hanged Man boss where the team basks in their victory and makes plans for to get sushi.
Character History: Wiki Link!
Canon Abilities: At this canon point, Junpei has access to the persona Hermes. His current abilities are:

- agilao; a medium fire attack
- blade of fury; a medium damage sword/slash attack that hits his target up to four times
- torrent shot; a medium pierce attack that hits the target multiple times
- assault dive; a light strike attack
- rakukaja; a support skill that lets him raise a person's 'defense.' This would probably translate to briefly giving the recipient more endurance/stamina in game for maybe 10/15 minutes.
- theurgy; an ultimate attack where Junpei and Hermes team up to unleash a flurry of slash/sword damage. This takes a great deal of stamina from him and can only be accessed under dire circumstances.
Inventory: Evoker, sword, SEES uniform, a flip phone, and his PSP.

🦋 Personality

Option 1: Answer the following questions. Elaborate on the answer, especially your characters thoughts and feelings surrounding the answer. For Canon Characters, you can choose four questions. For Original Characters, you will need to choose six questions. Keep the word count to 150-400 per question.
  1. Has your character always believed in magic? Do they have something influencing their perspective on the supernatural/metaphysical/spiritual from their past? How do they feel about magic?

  2. Junpei hasn't always believed in magic. For him, magic was something contained to the fantasies, fairy tales and superhero movies. He was grounded enough in reality to figure it didn't exist in his world. But a part of him always wished it could. He'd often imagine he could have a power. Something no one else could do. And when those wishes finally came to fruition and he awakened to his Persona, Junpei was very quick to latch onto this new reality of magical gifts without hesitation or much questioning. For him, it became less about what should exist in a normal reality and now what could exist.

In terms of how Junpei feels about magic? It's hard to say. On one hand, his entire Persona is some kind of magic/power but on the other hand? Junpei's persona has an abysmal magic stat with only single target fire spells at his disposal. So maybe in that way, a part of him still doesn't believe or accept magic -- choosing gifts that are physical based and more grounded in reality. He admires his teammates who are better suited for magic and adores the possibilities magic brings to his life/the world, but deep down he's unable to fully embrace magic as a whole.

  3. If your character could ask for one wish, and it's going to be magically granted without any consequence, what will it be and why?

  4. On the heels of defeating 'the final shadow' at Junpei's current canon point, he believes his powers are about to vanish so he would ask to be able to keep his persona and powers. It's not that he expects to use them and he likely wouldn't, but for him -- having his powers still feels a bit like the only thing he has. It's what sets him apart from the world and gives him "purpose." It's shallow and empty and he would realize that, but selfishly he wants to hold onto this delusion of being a hero. It would be easy enough for him to claim it's to protect the people he loves, like Chidori -- and that is true in a way. He would absolutely throw down for the folks he cares about! But also it props up the insecure part of him -- filling a void in his life he hasn't otherwise been able to figure out how to fill.

  5. What song would a siren sing to your character to lure them closer? Why?

  6. (CW: parental abuse/alcoholism mention) All a siren would have to do is sing a song of praise about Junpei and his heroics to draw him in. He's a simple man with a simple need -- getting noticed and recognized as someone worthwhile. His home life is terrible, to say the least. Canonically, his father is an alcoholic who (at best) neglects him and (at worst) physically/verbally abuses him. His mother doesn't seem to be in the picture either and it's unclear if it's because she left or she passed away. Because of this upbringing, Junpei doesn't have a very high self-worth and is desperate to be liked by his fellow peers.

He adopts a class clown persona because if he can make people laugh or pay attention to him in some way, then surely he will be worth something, right?? He acts arrogant, brags about achievements, and always talks himself up because a part of him wants to convince someone, anyone, to notice and value him. But it's empty because Junpei can't even convince himself of his worth. So sadly, if the siren could make him feel worthy of love/adoration.......he would 100% fall into their trap and get drowned.

  7. If there's one person your character would follow to another realm, who would it be and why? If there's no one, state that and explain why.

  8. There are a few people Junpei would follow to another realm. Likely most of his team and Chidori, as well. He loves Chidori with all the intensity of a first love and would chase after her with all the impulsivity of youth -- saving the world be damned!! But I think the best answer to this question would be Minato. Junpei's and Minato's friendship is intense and complicated. On one level, Junpei loves him like a brother and respects his strength/leadership. On another level, Junpei is extremely jealous of what Minato effortlessly has -- power, respect, a natural charisma to lead despite being so 'I don't care' about life. But if Minato were to disappear to a place Junpei could follow him, he would be the first person in line after him! They have been together from the beginning. Minato has saved Junpei's ass in battle more times than he can count. Junpei owes him more than he could ever properly pay him back.

And while following Minato would still be a rash decision, there's a deeper bond between them to make it not be something Junpei would ever regret. Junpei and Chidori are from different worlds in a sense. They're opposite in every way. There's a chance they could work out as a couple and also an equal chance they could not (especially prior to Chidori's ultimate sacrifice), but with Minato...he will always be Junpei's best friend. Even when Junpei has been an asshole toward him/shown him the worst sides of himself...Minato stayed by his side. It's only right for Junpei to do the same for him.
